Bremer 1894  concept

A gas-fitter and plumber by trade, Frederick is remembered for building (with assistant Tom Bates) the first British four wheeled motor car with an internal combustion engine in 1892 (claimed in 1912 by the British magazine Motor).

But the Bremer is a competitor, with the Knight, for the title of Britain's first four-wheeled, internal-combustion-engined car. This model still exists, in the Walthamstow Museum, London, and is in running order.
The influence in the design of the Benz from Germany is clear, even if the copy is more crudely executed ; the Bremer was the first of a long line of British cars to follow that successful pattern.
Its builder was a young engineer called Frederick W. Bremer, of Walthamstow, but the date of its completion is uncertain: 1894 is probable.
