1881 : The Bollée's "Rapide"

F. Hill of Deptford, in the Kent, of which the car of 1840, was the first to be provided of a differential in the rear axle, created the General Steam Carriage Company (yes, the one that didn't pay for Macerone in 1841) with the ulterior motive to allow the road loco to fight the exorbitant tariffs imposed by the monopoly of railroads on transports of goods to short distances.

He did journeys of demonstration, covering London-Hasting to go return in the same day, but his society turned short.
