'Voiture de l'année' est une expression considérée comme ayant été inventée par Motor Trend magazine dans les années 1950s pour leur sélection annuelle de la meilleure automobile.
Cette expression est aussi utilisée en europe pour une récompense annuelle à une nouvelle automobile choisie par un jury de journalistes automobiles européens.
Il existe ce genre de récompense un peu partout sur la planète comme en Australie du magazine Australien automobile 'Wheels' et de l'AJAC au Canada, ces deux derniers sont les plus importants utilisant cette expression, qui a parfois comme abréviation (en anglais) COTY.
