A friend of Mike Hawthorn, Beauman made his name in sportscars before taking to Formula 1 racing in 1954 at the wheel of a Connaught entered by Sir Jeremy Boles. He finished third at Chimay and again at Crystal Palace and took part in the British GP at Silverstone in July, in which he finished 11th.

   A few weeks later he was fourth in the Gold Cup at Oulton Park and then third in a race at Snetterton, drawing attention to his developing talent. In F2 he finished second in the Madgwick Cup at Goodwood that year.

   The following year he was third in the Glover Trophy F1 race and the Lavant Cup F2 event at Goodwood on Easter Monday and showed well in the International Trophy at Silverstone before retiring. The weekend before the British GP, however, he was killed when he crashed his ex-Hawthorn Riley during the Leinster Trophy race.
