Chevy's "other" sports car in the early '60s, with a big increase in power over other Corvairs from a carefully engineered turbo-supercharger. Strong performance, multi-gauge instrumentation set in a brushed aluminum panel, numerous handling and sports accessories, and a choice of coupe or convertible made the Spyder an ideal domestic alternative to the cramped and uncomfortable low-bucks foreign sports cars of the period. Unfortunately, it was introduced right as Corvair sales peaked, and its relatively high base price and mechanical complexity kept sales modest.
