Les désignations concernant les modèles de carrosserie telle que "Victoria" sont pour la plupart issues des appellations de véhicules hippomobiles. La conception générale des voitures, tel que le fait d'avoir des roues petites à l'avant et grandes à l'arrière, a la même origine. Une "Victoria" était une voiture hippomobile découverte à quatre roues, en référence à la reine Victoria qui affectionnait beaucoup ce type de véhicule.

"Victoria", Karl Benz reputedly exclaimed in 1893 when he succeeded in developing a king-pin steering system which allowed the front wheels of a cornering vehicle to turn at different angles. That was how the new model incorporating this system got its name. The capabilities of the "Victoria" were demonstrated by Theodor Freiherr von Liebieg in 1894 when he drove from Reichenberg in Bohemia via Mannheim to Reims and back The names used for the différent models of coachwork, such as the "Victoria", were borrowed from those of horse-drawn vehicles. The général design of the vehicles, such as having small wheels in front and large ones at the rear, have the same origins. A "Victoria" was a four-wheels open horse-drawn carriage, of the type used by Queen Victoria who was particularly fond of this type of carriage.
