La 159 (surnommée l'Alfetta dû à ses dimensions compactes) était dessinée à partir et pour la course, elle fut munie d’un moteur développant 425 ch. à 9300 t/m. Ce moteur était le plus puissant pour un 1500 cm3 jamais construit.

In 1951, Juan Manuel Fangio won the world championship driving a new enhanced model which was baptised 159.
The car (nicknamed “the Alfetta” due to its compact size) was designed for car racing purposes. It was powered by an engine which produced 425 hp at 9,300 rpm. The engine was the most powerful ever produced for a 1,500 cc.
